In 2007, Russia and the world cultural community commemorate the 250th
anniversary of the Russian Academy
of Arts, a descendant of art school and traditions of the Imperial Academy
of Arts and an assignee of USSR Academy of Arts. The 250th anniversary of
the Russian Academy of Arts has been included in the list of anniversaries with
whose celebrations UNESCO will be associated in 2006-2007. The jubilee program
has included numerous exhibitions and events held in Moscow, St.
Petersburg and many regions of Russia; in the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris,
France; in Johannesburg, South Africa; Brisbane, Australia; Tokyo, Japan;
Geneva, Switzerland. The focus of the festivities was the General
Assembly of the Russian Academy of Arts in honor of the 250th anniversary of
the Russian Academy of Arts in the Hall of Oecumenical Councils of the Cathedral
of Christ the Savior in Moscow on June 15, 2007, which received greetings from
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Patriarch of Russia Alexi
II. At the General Assembly speeches were made by representatives of the
President Administration, State Duma, heads of Ministries and Regional
Administrations, presidents of foreign Academies of Arts, Russian noted figures
of culture. Among major jubilee exhibitions were: exhibition
in Manezh Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow 15 June–27 June, 2007; exhibition
in Manezh Central Exhibition Hall in St. Petersburg 10 July– 29 July, 2007;
jubilee
events in St. Petersburg 17 June, 2007; Academic
Art School exhibition in New Manezh exhibition hall in Moscow 16 October–4
November, 2007. Program of
events held in St. Petersburg on November 15-16, 2007 included unveiling
ceremony for the monument to sculptor Peter Klodt by academician Vladimir
Gorevoy, a meeting and award ceremony in I. Repin St.Petersburg State
Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, as well as a
conference on problems of modern art education in Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye
Selo. Next year, the Academy’s exhibitions will be on display in Japan,
China, France, Spain and the United States. The jubilee events give vivid
evidence to pluralism of styles and directions in Russian modern art testifying
to the viability and prospects of the Russian Academy of Arts. Artists of
the Academy make their best effort to ensure that the Russian school of art will
continue to rise to new levels.
